West of Nowhere “West of Nowhere” (Comstock).
A six piece from Texas where they have picked up several awards, Won area
country rock outfit who, though very much of the twenty-first century, have a
sound that beautifully echoes the golden age of country rock, that is, the late
sixties and early seventies. This comes across strongly in the blending of
electric and steel guitars (Greg Belt and Dick Wood), the strong lead vocals
(Jon Beaumont) and the oh so sweet harmonies (Jerrell Baker, Danny Kinsey and
Steve Owen). Each of the eleven songs has strength but with writers like Tom
Shapiro, Tony Martin and Wes Hightower one could expect nothing less. Produced
in Texas by Jeff Sturms (the George Strait Band). Sample; “I Didn’t I
Swear”, “Heavy Rain”, “Even When It Rains” and “Goin’ To A
Fire”.
